Decorating an Accent Table
By: Susan Lenehan

Accent tables are a great way to use a small piece of furniture to make a big impact on your living space. How you decorate an accent table is also a great way to incorporate your personality into your home. It differs from decorating a coffee table because its main objective is to elevate your home’s aesthetic rather than being strictly practical.
Add Baskets and Trays
If there is enough space, then try adding baskets or trays to your accent table. You can find many aesthetically pleasing ones and they also make your home decor look more purposeful and organized.
If you have a smaller accent table then avoid using baskets or trays that take up most of the surface area. Skip this addition if your table is too small, or if you choose to add one then make sure it’s small!

Incorporate Greenery
An accent table is a great place for a small plant or flowers (real or faux, it’s up to you) to add a bit of natural beauty to your space. It’s the perfect way to bring a fresh and lively vibe to your spaces! Plus, they’re an easy piece to switch out as you update your decor throughout seasons.

Play with Height
When thinking about how to decorate an accent table, always add height! Adding height is the best way to create visual interest and add some dimension to the display.

You can choose one main object, which is usually the tallest one, then add some smaller items around it depending on the size of your accent table.
Add Some Light
If your accent table is small enough that all you can fit on it is a lamp, then that’s totally okay! Lighting counts as decor as long as you choose one that fits with your house aesthetic!
If you have a larger accent table then you can also try adding two matching candles or small table lamps at either end to add some balance and symmetry.
Use Functional Decor Pieces
From a practical mindset, using functional decor is the best way to get the most bang for your buck. Lighting, clocks, baskets, and trays are all great examples of functional decor pieces.
These options will help to organize your clutter while also elevating the look of your space!

Select a Color Scheme
Choose a color scheme that complements the overall decor style of the room. This will create harmony and tie the accent table into the broader design of the living room.
Rotate Seasonal Decor
The best way to keep your accent table looking fresh is by rotating your seasonal decor items. This ensures that the space remains dynamic and continues to stay on theme with the rest of your house.
I love decorating my house each season and swapping out my accent table and side table decor is always so much fun.
Choose a Focal Point
Interior designers have been sharing this tip for year, but don’t forget to always choose a focal point or theme for your accent table. It could be a decorative item, a piece of art, or even a stack of books.
A focal point will help you create a cohesive look and gives you a helpful starting point when choosing the remainder of your decor!
Vases
Vases are a great option to decorate an accent table because there are so many different shapes, sizes, and colors that you’re sure to find one you love! Plus, you can always toss in a few of your favorite real or faux stems for an extra pop of color.

Lamps
Whether you’re decorating a console table, nesting table, or accent table, lamps are a practical choice that can also really elevate the look of your display.
Candles and Candle Holders
Candles are a lovely decorative item that adds both beauty and warmth to an accent table. Even if they are purely decorative, they still provide a calming homey vibe to your home.

Decorating an accent table is the perfect opportunity to showcase your style and add a personal touch to your space. Whether you prefer a minimalist vibe, a vibrant eclectic look, or a cozy and layered aesthetic, your accent table can effortlessly tie the room together. Remember to play with height, textures, and colors, and let your creativity shine. With these tips, you can transform a simple table into a stunning centerpiece that reflects your unique taste. Happy decorating!
